A water damage inspection app should shave 20 minutes off every job, not add 10. Here's what to look for in a real field tool.
The truck-side inspection is the single most valuable 30 minutes on a water loss. Do it well and the rest of the job flows. Do it badly and you'll spend the next two weeks reconstructing what happened.
The tech's short list
- Category and class of loss (Cat 1/2/3, Class 1 to 4) captured up front
- Affected rooms with wet materials tagged by type: drywall, wood, carpet, subfloor
- Moisture readings dropped on a floor plan, not a form field
- Psychrometric readings (temp, RH, GPP) for affected, unaffected, and outdoor
- Photos linked to the room and the affected area, not a generic album
Where most apps fail
They ask for the data in an order that doesn't match how a tech actually walks a house. A good app follows the walk-through: front door, room by room, then equipment placement. A bad app makes the tech jump between screens and end up entering data in the truck 20 minutes later.
